Kaundia Union in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, is becoming a drug sanctuary day by day. Although the law enforcement agencies are active in the fight against drugs, the main godfathers remain untouchable due to the friendship of some police officers with drug dealers. As a result, the youth is on the verge of destruction due to the drug addiction. School and college-going students are getting addicted to this deadly drug addiction. Students are going astray. Many times, they get involved in various crimes including theft, robbery, murder due to drug addiction. Guardians are worried.
There are 22 villages in Kaundia Union, adjacent to Mirpur, Gabtoli and Aminbazar in the capital. The only way for people to travel in these villages of Kaundia, surrounded by the Turag River, is by boat. That is why drug dealers and prostitutes have chosen this area as a safe place.
Although the locals have made strong demands to the higher officials of the administration to protect the youth from this scourge of drugs, it is not possible to eradicate drugs. On the contrary, since August 5, drug dealers have been continuing their business without any hindrance under the noses of the administration.
Many people say that various drugs including yaba, marijuana, heroin, phensedyl are being sold openly under the umbrella of some police. Drug dealers claim that some police officers of the police station take bribes from them. And all these drug trades are now an open secret in Savar. Again, under pressure from the higher authorities, the police have arrested 2-1 drug dealers, but there are also several allegations that they were released in exchange for a large sum of money.
On Sunday (April 20), Kaundia Police Investigation Center In-charge Kazi Abdur Rahim learned through secret information that bicycle mechanic Mosharraf was staying at a place adjacent to Bedepara Mosque in Kaundia to sell drugs. At that time, drug dealer Mosharraf sold drugs and escaped before the police reached the spot. Later, the police confirmed Mosharraf’s location and arrested him. After being arrested, Mosharraf confessed to selling drugs and said that he had sold 200 pieces of Yaba to 2 people. He did not have any more drugs.
At that time, in the presence of the police, drug dealer Titu @ Khata Titu called Mosharraf asking for money for selling drugs. The call was received by the outpost in-charge Abdur Rahim. Titu cut the line after hearing his voice. Later, he went to Titu’s house to look for him and found that the house was locked. After finding out the truth about the drug trade, Titu could not be found and since Mosharraf did not have any drugs, the outpost in-charge Abdur Rahim took 15,000 taka of the drug he was selling and left him. Due to such activities of the outpost in-charge, drug trading in the area is going on without any problems.
Meanwhile, Titu is known to have stayed out of the area for two days due to fear of the police. The next day, it is known that he gave 50,000 taka to the outpost in-charge Kazi Abdur Rahim and is continuing the drug trade in the area without any problems. It is alleged that Abdur Rahim takes money from multiple drug dealers on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Due to this, the drug dealers are continuing their business without any problems.
Investigations have revealed that there are multiple drug spots in every ward of Kaundia, Savar. Among these, Kaundia Bazar, Madhyapara, Paschim Para, Burirtek, Beltola, Panchkani, Mankertek, Singasayr, Tikalertek, Ghasirdah, Bedepara, Chairman Plot, Dipjal Plot, Bashundhara Plot, 30 Feet, Lebu Bagan and several other drug spots are notable. There are allegations against the outpost in-charge that he uses his own people to take bribes from these drug spots.
Locals say that many people think that Kaundia Union has now developed into a sanctuary area for criminals and drug dealers. They say that various crimes including robbery, theft, prostitution, land grabbing are now a daily occurrence in this area. Due to the closeness of drug dealers with the police, the victims are having to suffer even more. Their syndicate is so powerful that the drug dealers sense their presence before the law enforcement agencies can raid these spots and flee.
It is known that the drug business of Anis @ Passport, the one-time godfather of drugs (Yaba) in this union, is now controlled by his younger brother Titu @ Khata Titu. This Titu has about 10 to 15 spots under his control. Where he supplies Yaba himself. In addition, Titu supplies drugs to several drug spots including Mirpur, Gabtoli, Aminbazar. The DB, RAB and police arrested Titu with drugs several times, but Titu’s brother Anis exchanged them for money.
The former chairman of Kaundia Union Parishad said that although a list of drug dealers was prepared and given to the police several times in the past to make the union drug-free, no remedy was found, rather the number increased.
Regarding the drug trade in Kaundia, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station said that if any member of the Kaundia Police Investigation Center is found to be involved in this allegation, legal action will be taken.
In this regard, Kaundia Police Investigation Center Sub-Inspector Kazi Abdur Rahimak Mosharraf admitted to arresting a young man named and said that he went to the house of drug lord Titu and found him locked. But on the spot, it was seen that even after the incident, Titu is roaming openly in the Kaundia area and is continuing the drug trade in Dedars.
